Looks like, this winter is turning out to be the hottest season for committees. Thanks to the rejuvenated Telangana struggle and the Centre playing ball, a host of committees have come into existence to keep the political leaders busy.
Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, the other day, spoke of an expert judicial committee to study the Telangana issue in its totality. He said an announcement would be made in the first week of February on its shape.
This committee, as we all know, is bound to consume at least a good six months to come out with its reports. What happens then depends on the prevailing mood – KCR, if he is still unrelenting, can pull the trigger on the Centre’s temple for his most-cherished T-cup. And there could be more bandhs and hardships.
Following the Chidambaram statement, the Telangana JAC fighting for the separate statehood cause, came out with yet another committee, the new one coming out with the ‘steering’ in its hand. The steering committee, as you are advised to call it, held its meeting on Friday to ‘discuss’ the options and strategies the JAC should follow after UPA announces the ‘committee’.
The JAC itself is a committee, loosely formed with pro-Telangana representatives of various political parties. In between, the Congress and TDP had tried their hands at their own ‘committees’ for the T-cause! Now, this should inspire the BJP as well to float its own ‘committee’ sooner or later. But here is a glitch for the the saffron party; it is too depleted right now to have the luxury of its own committee.
This is where the smaller and fledgling parties might plan to come under one roof to form one more committee.
It’s not all, there are dime a dozen rival committees in Andhra and Rayalaseema regions. Some more in the pipeline and some might take shape sooner or later. The list of committees is endless on either side.
But in the melee, the state of Andhra Pradesh is in tact enjoying a brief respite! The political activity is on at a quivering pitch, as if there is no tomorrow. The people, who have elected them, however live in hope; the hope of a new dawn and a better life! Anyone listening?! |
