Prof. Kodandaram was never so popular until he was the convenor of the Telanana JAC. And he did a world of good to his popularity when he kept chasing the Congress leaders for their resignations all the while keeping his ‘professorgiri’ in Osmania Universty in tact.
Now with TRS making a monster out of the molehill on Sri Krishna Committee’s terms of reference, Prof. Kodandaram suddenly looks a different man. He is no more belligerent on the issue of resignations. On the contrary, he wants KCR (sorry, he cannot dictate terms to his ‘boss’) to sober down and go slow.
Kodandaram might have had a reason in trying to hold back TRS resignations. Firstly, any unilateral action by KCR and the TRS would defeat the JAC and its existence. This may be the last thing that Kodandaram wants at present.
Secondly, it will be a glaring violation of the JAC ‘dharma’ and makes the adhoc committee even more irrelevant. Already, the committee is under criticism for being a ‘toy in the hands of KCR’. Any further personalised action by KCR would make the criticism more convincing. That’s why he wants to give the resignations the sanctity of the JAC.
But Kodandaram is really in a fix now. He was the one who made life difficult for the TDP and Congress legislators and MPs over their resignations not so long ago. He even tried to instigate the public to put pressure on these leaders that triggered fissures in the JAC.
Kodandaram’s latest ‘go-slow’ approach especially after going all out and at full steam, is making him a butt of ridicule in the political and media circles. May be, he is a veteran as a political observer but is fast-proving to be a novice in the political theatre. It’s a lesson in the hard way for him that he needs to weigh his words and moves before getting down to action.
