If you have to pick one political party that is clearly suffering most due to the Telangana agitation, it’s got to be the TDP. The TDP indecision virtually on every aspect of Telangana at every stage is hurting it badly.
Its leaders especially those from the Telangana are making themselves a butt of ridicule in front of their rivals. The latest example of this comes from the newest of resignation demands mooted by the Telangana JAC. There is once again a resignation spree from all parties as a strong reaction of protest to the terms of references announced for the Justice Sri Krishna Committee.
The TRS and some of the Telangana leaders from the Congress are preparing their ground for en-masses resignations. With no clear Telangana stand, the TDP men are at cross roads and pitifully turn to their leader for every move. Their chief Chandrababu Naidu says the two regions of the state are like two eyes for him. But he is also greedy to keep the party flag high in Telangana.
Sailing with Naidu’s ambiguity and keeping themselves in the Telangana race has become a Herculean task for the TD leaders. Now with resignations haunting them once again, they hit upon a novel idea. They too grandly announced their resignations but in stead of sending their resignations to the Assembly Speaker, they chose to send it to Prof. Kodandaram, the JAC convenor.
Their condition is that the Congress leaders should first come out with their resignations and only then their resignations be forwarded. The TDP is no doubt playing it safe but its ‘Congress-first’ approach at every stage is annoying the other JAC members beyond a point of tolerance.
TRS chief KCR in a television show on Monday made fun of TDP’s representative K Venugopalachari on the issue. Chari who tried to match KCR’s decibel levels quickly fell silent when he was asked to spell out a clear TDP stand on Telangana. KCR, in a strong reaction, challenged Chari and other Telangana leaders of TDP to convince Naidu to come clear on the issue.
Political observers say the TDP has already done enough damage to itself and might have to pay dearly for its groping around on Telangana. But by sending resignations to Prof. Kodandaram, ‘Nagam Janardhan Reddy and co’ once again exposed their limitations as puppets in the hands of Naidu.
Like the devil and the deep sea, the TDP leaders also have one more adversary to fight with. They are too scared to act smart on resignations like the leaders of other parties can. Assembly speaker Kiran Kumar Reddy proved that he is smarter than the TDP leaders. On Sunday, he strategically accepted the resignation tendered on December 31 last year by TDP’s Vemulavada legislator Chennamaneni Ramesh.
That was supposedly the Congress ‘tit for tat’ for the TDP’s ‘pehle tum’ attitude. Now, you know the reason why they are scared of seeing the speaker eye-to-eye, in the Assembly or outside?!
