Injuries open Test doors for youngsters

The ‘wisemen’ of the Indian cricket are once again put to a tricky test! The team composition for the forthcoming home Test series against South Africa is keeping them on tenterhooks. With the creame of the batting and a few bowlers falling to injuries during the just-concluded series in Bangladesh, filling the experienced shoes with some good promising talent becomes their biggest task.
Pacer Sreeshanth and V V S Laxman were out with injuries after the first Test in Chittagong. Rahul Dravid then became the biggest casualty after being hit on his jaw in the second Test. Yuvraj added to the list, sitting out of the Test from the third day.
While Dravid is ruled out for the entire series, Laxman and Yuvi are not likely to recover in time. So, this means a huge gap to fill in the middle order. One-Day specialists Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli along with Badrinath are vying for these berths. Badrinath who has been in and out of the Test team, and Virat Kohli, for his recent form, are expected to get the call from the selectors. But if history is any indication, there could be a few surprise calls. Whatever it is, let’s hope and pray, the selectors will not compel the media to call them a bunch of jokers once again!
